Shannon Brimer and a Call to Ministry
Sierra Bible Church,
I’m not sure if you know who I am, but my family and I have called SBC home since I was 5 years old when we moved up to Truckee. I have been in and out of the Church throughout the last 4 years because of school and internships. I recently graduate from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a bachelor’s in Ministry with Victims of Sexual Exploitation. As of two weeks ago, I accepted a Case Manager position at FACESS (Freeing American Children from Exploitation and Sexual Slavery), which is where I did my 6-month internship last year for my undergrad degree.
This non-profit (FACESS) is located in Northern California and is on average a 1.5 year program for 12-18 y.o girls who’ve been commercially sexually exploited in America. They provide counseling from sexual trauma, education/educational goals, life-skills training, medical provision, transitional after-care upon graduation from program, and the hopes of each student regaining their lost childhood. My role within this Christian ministry will be two-fold as I will be a case manager, as well as, a house parent. This includes managing and overseeing all intakes into the program, communication with courts and probationary officers, medical paperwork, and basically anything having to do with the documentation side of the student. My other role includes overseeing off-campus errands for the girls (counseling, shopping), education hours, chore duties, and downtime. In addition to working with children who’ve been commercially sexually exploited, I will also be working with at-risk youth (boys and girls).
The reason I’m reaching out to you, is because working in this full-time ministry was the hardest, most challenging, yet life-giving thing I’ve ever done! Satan is no-joke when it comes to this type of ministry. He knows exactly how to attack and most times it seems relentless. Not only do I need major prayer but the other staff, and kids in the program too. Each student’s soul is being fought for on that mountain and Satan knows it! But God! He knows too, and He promises to work mightily through the prayer of His people!! I’ve never experienced spiritual warfare the way I did on that mountain and a part of me is fearful of getting back into it. Which is why I am reaching out to you, to see if you, our church will partner with me in fierce and devoted prayer as I enter into this full-time ministry.
Prayer requests would include:
Gospel to be clear to all students and that they would find true healing in Him
Healing from sexual trauma for the girls
Wisdom/rest for staff
Financial provision for staff and non-profit
Ability to unconditionally love the students
Patience and peace
Eradication of all my fears
